Empire Stores Redevelopment RFP Competition, DUMBO Brooklyn, New York
M.Arch Architects in conjunction with ABR Partners LLC is pleased to present a design proposal for the rebirth of the Empire Stores, a unique structure that is an iconic representation of the history, and future, of the NYC waterfront. The Empire Stores restoration that M.Arch Architects proposes will offer a unique repurposing of the building with a multi-level retail experience that offers a unique regional destination shopping experience. While shoppers and diners enjoy the spectacular views, they can browse a range of retail experiences that will be carefully curated to ensure a unique shopping experience where both memories and profits are made. An interior promenade with ground floor retail is configured to allow for meandering park goers to take a refreshment break on a hot day, and shoppers to have an experience that ties to the history and unique nature of the site. Inside, a Boxing Hall of Champions could be a unique and memorable destination with a strong “On the Waterfront” DUMBO identification. One goal is to relocate established live boxing training facilities within the building providing greater public visibility sharing facets of the “Sweet Science” with both tourists and schoolchildren year round. The goal of teaching the social benefits of the sport of boxing would be a critical driver for the Community Facility functions of the project.
