Adaptive Reuse

M.Arch Architects has contributed to hundreds of cultural significant sites in New York City, Boston, Nantucket, North Georgia, and East Tennessee.  Our endeavors seek to preserve, conserve and protect buildings, objects, landscapes or other artifacts of historical significance.  It can be argued that culture is under attach by the technological moderization, mechanization, and specialization of soceity.  M.Arch Architects considers it our duty to preserve cultural history weather it be the landscape or the artifact of a building.  Our approach is to enhance cultural significance and building value with a harmonious design and smart no non-sense solutions that does not compromise the project goals.

Preserving older buildings presents significant challenges in different forms.  High on the list of challenges is the cost of preservation which is comparable to receiving a bill from a hospital and scomparable rad what to do, before medical surgery.  M.Arch Architects investigates, probes, inspections, and offers thoughtruly reconstruction techniques before you spend a dime on construction.

Most people think of buildings as products of reason serving a function of occupancy but when a society identifies itself with a building it becomes part of its heritage.  The cultural significance of some buildings is so high that the cost to repair them is of little consequence to the continuance of heritage.  Preserving the past in the right way is a big challenge because it involves the emotions of many people and decisions are not easily made based on emotion.  M.Arch Architects has resolved hundreds of similar situations in front of community board hearings, landmark preservation commission hearings, and local community group meetings.  Our unique process is engaging decision makers in a thoughtful dialog based on precise accuracy of our presentations in the form of drawings, specifications, and 3D Models.  This process is unique in part because the technology we have mastered and in part by the style and passion we bring to every design project.  Clients often comment our ability to emmerse them in a wholistic presentation with accurate information as well as walk them through the tedious approval and construction processes.  We provide a service far beyond most competing firms who typically stand back adding expensive consultants because of there lack of knowledge or inability to be hands on.

Our services include laser scanning and digital surveying of historic building features, CAD and Building Information Modelling, restorative facade design, construction documents and specifications, cost estimation, project scheduling, Landmarks Preservation Commission and community board hearing presentations, windows, doors, railing, and building component mock-ups, paint selection, steel, wood, brick, and stone finishing system design, fencing and scaffold design, structural and mechanical systems design.
