Eden Food Centers

M.Arch Architects has partnered with national food distributors to design and manufacture temporary facilities called Eden Food centers within federally designated 'food deserts,' and opportunity zones. In response to covid-19 world pandemic inefficient systems of food production and distribution has been elevated to a national security issue. Federally designated 'food deserts' are at the center of this crisis. Food deserts are throughout the United states, in areas where limited access to supermarkets, supercenters, grocery stores, or other sources of healthy and affordable food may make it harder for some Americans to eat a healthy diet. Poor American diets in low-income areas is attributed to national health and hospital costs accounting to be annually over $100B.

M.Arch Architects and the Eden Food Center team are designing and manufacturing low cost shipping containers adaptively re-used into temporary food distribution centers. Working closely with mayors and communities throughout the US the Eden Food center team is a low cost solution and is an example how good design and teamwork can provide necessities and comfort to a healing nation.
